This course explores the conflicting ideas and realities that brought about the great conflicts of early modern Europe, in particular,  the Thirty Years War.

The course examines topics such as the complex system of communication that existed between European states and societies, the military revolution,  the religious landscape,  political institutions and cultures, and the worlds of art and literature.

This is a split-level Undergraduate/Graduate course cross-listed with HIST 6040.
