Drawing upon primary and secondary sources, literature, and images, this course explores how women and men negotiated social and cultural identities in early modern Britain, colonial British North America, and the early American republic.
Students will focus on the ways that European African and Native-American women and men shaped and were shaped by social constructions of gender.
