I just graduated UC with a Major in Journalism and a Minor in History. I love to read, watch TV, listen to music, collect music, and go to concerts. I’m freelancing as a journalist until I can find a more stable job and/or I go to law school to become a civil rights attorney!

What brought you to the study of history at UC?

This is a long answer! So, in Spring 2022, I failed organic chemistry as a chemistry major. I got a D+. I had no idea what I was going to do, so I talked to my advisor. She said to look into courses that seemed interesting, so I took a combination of history and journalism classes in the fall of 2022. About halfway through the semester, I decided to minor in history because I love learning about it. I always have. Shoutout to Pawn Stars! I knew I didn’t want to major in it because I want a career that actively works in the field, rather than working in a museum or teaching (not that those are bad choices by any means. They just aren’t for me.)

What skills are you picking up from studying history that are coming in handy beyond your history classes?

Reading comprehension, persuasive writing, seeing the world through different perspectives.

Have any advice for incoming and prospective history students?

Get involved with history events! They’re very casual and are always a good time. Meet professors and other students to network.

What do you hope to do after college?

Law school! I want to be a civil rights attorney, and my background in history and journalism will help me.

What’s your favorite part of studying history at UC so far?

The community!
