What brought you to the study of history at UC?

I heard so much about the professors, what they have to offer, and how they really want you to graduate. They really do push you to be the best version of yourself that you can be!

What are you focusing on (so far) in your history major or minor?

I’m pursuing a major concentration in Race, Ethnicity, & inequality. I am currently focusing on how the view of sexual activities and who it was done with has changed over the years, how race played a factor in that, and its lingering effects today when it comes to modern-day forms of slavery.

What skills are you picking up from studying history that are coming in handy beyond your history classes?

I’ve picked up research and critical reading skills that help in understanding sources and seeing biases within writing.

Have any advice for incoming and prospective history students?

it is okay to fail as long as you bounce back from it because without failure you will never feel the pleasures of success!

What do you hope to do after college?

I hope to attend law school and become a Human Rights Attorney.

What’s your favorite part of studying history at UC so far?

Already seeing the impact of the courses I’m taking on my understanding of the past and present.
