I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Secondary Education Social Studies History degree from CECH and a Minor in History from the College of Arts and Sciences.

What are you up to these days?

I teach history at a middle-school school for students with autism and ADHD. I also pursue my passion for history through historical reenactment. And I am about to be married!

What brought you to history at UC?

I came to UC in 2016 as an undecided major. During my freshman orientation, I was assigned to tour with the history majors, and I later found out my major had been switched to history. At first, I was a bit upset that this decision had been made for me, however, after meeting the professors and my future peers I knew I ended up in the right place.

What did you focus on as a history student at UC?

During my years as an undergraduate, I took far more history courses than required. I enjoyed my time in them all.

Did you have any favorite history courses? Which ones and why?

I’ll especially remember my World History and European Renaissance courses with Dr. Longfield Karr, with her rigorous lessons on writing and communicating sound arguments. I also loved my Imperial China, Modern China, and History of Japan courses with Dr. Man Bun Kwan; Kwan could pull anyone into his lessons and open a field of inquiry.

What skills did you pick up from studying history that have served you well beyond your courses?

Every day, I try to impress upon my students how history develops indispensable skills of information acquisition and critical yet unique thinking, and the joy of working to understand our past.

Have any advice for current students?

For any current history students reading this, remember our passion for history should not stop us from cultivating a happy present and planning for our future.
