I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in History focusing on Military History.

What are you up to these days?

For the last ten years, I’ve pursued a career in Logistics and Supply Chain, and recently, I’ve found a new passion for long-lost hobbies.

What brought you to history at UC?

I’ve always liked stories and learning new things. By focusing on History at U.C. I combined my passion for both things. Hearing stories from individuals and learning new things along the way.

What did you focus on as a history student at UC?

At U.C., I focused on Military History simply because conflict has shaped and influenced the world more than any other subject.

Did you have any favorite history courses? Which ones and why?

I really enjoyed my Film and the History of World War II (Hist3085) course with Joe Horine, my History of the American West (Hist3012) course with Dr. Stanley Corkjin, and my African American In Film (Hist3030) course with Dr. Holly McGree, courses. These courses gave me some insight into how the movies were made, how to look deeper into the films, and how to look at films with a critical eye.

What did you focus on in your capstone and why?

For my capstone, I focused on the United States Marine Corps landing in Tarawa during the Second World War. I wanted to focus on something I hadn’t seen much written about in the historiography that I thought contributed significantly to the Pacific Campaign in World War II.

What skills did you pick up from studying history that have served you well beyond your courses?

Studying History taught me how to carefully analyze and apply critical thinking to my daily tasks at work. I also learned to empathize with others by being able to study their lives and struggles. This has served me very well in my career.

Have any advice for current students?

My advice for current students is always to remember to think critically. By studying the smaller details of an event you’re better able to see the larger picture and potentially how it influences us in the world today. Remember that many successful people have a degree in History, from Comedians and Writers to Politicians.
