I’m originally from West Chester, Ohio. I graduated from UC in the fall of 2022 and live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

What are you up to these days?

I am currently a Park Guide with the National Park Service at Independence National Historical Park here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

What brought you to history at UC?

I love history and I have a whole family of Bearcats, so it was a perfect match.

What did you focus on as a history student at UC?

I focused on public history and any history that wasn’t American.

Did you have any favorite history courses? Which ones and why?

Dynastic China. The class is so informative, and Professor Kwan is one of the funniest Professors I know. He made history, and the materials really come to life.

History of Cincinnati. It is always so precious to learn about the history of the place we live and learn. I also loved to walk in the neighborhoods with the WPA Writers project.

Introduction to Public History (Musuems, Monuments, and Battlefields). This is the class that I still use for the foundation of my professional life: exhibit design, alt text usage, monument placement, and so much more.

What did you do focus on in your capstone and why?

I focused on the economic history of the Scottish Act of Union in 1709 because I love Scotland and economic histories, so what better way to merge the two together?

What skills did you pick up from studying history that have served you well beyond your courses?

Research skills and critical reading skills. When I am creating programs, knowing how to exactly navigate my sources and get exactly what I need from them has been an invaluable skill.

Have any advice for current students?

Get to know your professors!!! If I did not talk to Dr. Wingo about internships, I would not have my position with the National Park Service. Please get to know your professors. They are there to help you succeed.
