In this course, we study the Middle East (Southwest Asia) and North Africa from the early modern era through the 21st century.
We study the political, economic, social, and cultural history of the area, including arts, architecture, law, literature, and folk cultures.
The goals of the course are to develop analytical thinking and writing within the discipline of history while introducing some of the cultural and political forms that have existed over time in this region of the world.
