This course studies the growth of the medieval and early modern state and society as they emerged from the more tribal-like society of Anglo-Saxon Britain.
It focuses especially on how the context of an increasingly important national political and religious structure and a growing interchange between Britain and continental political entities affected the interaction of local societies and cultural customs.
