This course focuses on the history of China from neolithic times down to the 12th century.
How did the country develop to become one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations, while surviving invasions and disasters (natural or otherwise)?
Topics include major institutions such as the imperial system, Confucianism, Buddhism, civil service examination, and other Chinese gifts to humankind (including bureaucracy).
