To explore women in South Asia,  particularly in India,  Pakistan,  and Bangladesh.

We will study traditional topics like patriarchy, marriage and family, gender and sexuality, and also explore women as political actors, intellectuals,  and professionals. This perspective will enable us to focus on the social and political dynamics of South Asia,  as well as the daily activities of ordinary Asian women. We shall move from there to a discussion of the position of women in South Asia,  and particularly India,  looking at a diverse and wide array of texts. What are the main concerns of Indian feminists and what are the trends in Indian feminism? We will investigate the position of women in India and the rest of South Asia which continues to remain a matter of much concern.

We will also watch movies like Mother India/ Pinjar/ Mirch Masala/Chandni Bar/Parineeta/Water.
