Dr. Shailaja Paik

This course explores the anti-colonial nationalist movement of India with a specific focus on M.K. Gandhi, a major political activist and thinker of our times.

It examines the evolution and practical application of his ideas and techniques of non-violent resistance,  satyagraha,  and his attitudes toward the economy, society, and the state.

In addition,  students will be exposed to the process of interpreting historical documents and constructing a historical narrative of events.

This course is cross-listed with AIST 2018.
