This course will examine the Soviet experience in World War II, paying close attention to the political, military, social, cultural, and economic dimensions of the conflict and its complicated impact on Soviet state and society.

The class will also explore the way the war has been remembered and interpreted in the post-war era, including in the contemporary states of the former USSR such as the Russian Federation, the Baltic countries, and Ukraine.
